Jessica Ennis Hillonce said, “The only one who can tell you that you can’t win is you, and you don’t have to listen.” Perhaps this is the life mantra of Malcolm Akinseye, a Nigerian-born American athlete with a unique story of beating the odds by adopting calisthenics. Malcolm, aka Malk, is an expert coach and trainer determined to put calisthenics on the map and make this physical training more accessible for everyone.
The road to calisthenics for Malcolm was never an easy one, with many bumps along the way. With his 6’6″ height, he was a rare, or better said, once-considered impossible case in calisthenics. Each of the feats of calisthenics depends on the body’s center of gravity and range of motion. For someone as tall as Malcolm, these ranges are often too extensive and can lead to injury if not performed correctly. Additionally, the leverage that taller people have on their joints is challenging to control and can cause problems — but here, the odds were against the wrong guy. Despite his height, Malcolm stunned the world by attempting some of the craziest and impossible techniques for someone shorter.
Malcolm started as a super skinny guy who lacked strength and confidence. First, he tried hands-on weight lifting but didn’t see the desired results. Eventually, his true journey began after he stumbled upon calisthenics. Within a few years, after rigorous training regimens and proper nutrition, he went from skinny to a strapping, powerful guy (170 to 210 lbs), which was a massive transformation and accomplishment.
Training in this demanding manner not only helped him achieve his strength and muscle goals but also allowed him to defy gravity and perform extraordinary feats of physical prowess. According to Malcolm, calisthenics gave him the discipline and strength he needed to live the life he wanted.
Today, he inspires many, especially those with taller frames, to adopt calisthenics. He is proclaiming to the world that calisthenics is accessible to people of all backgrounds and abilities and is not just designed for a specific height. Ultimately, he is a living example that consistent hard work leads to success.
With his 1:1 online coaching at Malk Calisthenics, he is ready to help everyone looking to build strength and confidence and create that “superhero body” they have always dreamed of. So, why wait? Join Malcolm on this rewarding journey and see yourself transformed!
