If you have ever come across the enchanting world of @SpiritPlants on Instagram and/or TikTok you must have at least considered starting a houseplant collection or expanding the collection you already have. Lida Mankovskaya, the energetic blonde behind Spirit Plants has a way of making plant-care look enticing. Numerous studies have shown that greenery can relieve stress and positively impact the air-quality in our homes but the process of plant-care might seem daunting to a newbie. In her videos, Lida breaks that process down and makes it look easy and fun. Before seeing one of Lida’s repotting videos, the idea of repotting a plant never appealed to me. In fact, I never even thought about repotting. She is somehow able to make the process look peaceful and satisfying. She makes an art out of it.
What’s interesting is that Lida’s background is not in botany at all. She’s a lawyer by day with a pretty impressive professional resume at that. Botany and law might seem as far removed from each other as it gets, but Lida insists that nurturing plants on her time off makes her better at every aspect of her professional life. She says, “Taking care of plants can be meditative and calming. They teach you what it means to be present. If you can be truly present in your work, you can be the most effective version of yourself.” Win win!
