It’s called “Dolly Parton Challenge,” named after the famous country singer who made it popular…
For some days now, a meme has been going around a lot, as in most cases it was born in the United States and has spread to the rest of the world, including Italy: it took the name of “Dolly Parton Challenge”, after the famous American country singer who made it popular. It consists basically of a series of four photographs, which can portray who publishes the meme or another famous character, each one is accompanied by a caption with the name of a social network: Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram and Tinder.
The sense is that the four photographs portray the subject in very different poses and attitudes, with some affinity to the social network to which they are associated: that of Linkedin – a social network used to find work – serious and formal, that of Facebook friendly and cheerful, that of Instagram festive or a bit ‘artistic, and that of Tinder – an app for meetings – winking.
Parton’s tweet, which was accompanied by the caption “find a woman who can do them all”, got hundreds of thousands of retweets, likes and answers, and was soon imitated by other celebrities such as Conan O’Brian and Ellen DeGeneres, while other accounts re-proposed the meme dedicating it to other celebrities.
From the United States, the meme has also arrived in Italy, applied for example to the presenter Paola Barale.
Unlike many meme, which take weeks or months to become truly mainstream, if they ever become mainstream, the Dolly Parton Challenge started out as a celebrity thing right away, so it took little time to spread.
