Spyce, when robots invite themselves into restaurants…
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

There is no shortage of innovations in the world of catering. After server drones, professionals in the sector are looking for solutions to reduce their expenses. And the latest innovation to date concerns the recruitment of robots to cook our dishes. This innovative concept was launched by four students from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

This extraordinary restaurant is located in Boston, USA. Instead of real cooks, robots prepare the menus. However, behind this technology, there is always a human being. In this particular case, it’s French chef Daniel Boulud.

A robotic kitchen, a more economical solution
The four young entrepreneurs called their restaurant Spyce. In the foodservice sector, the cost of the cooks’ salaries is a major expense. By using robotics, these young people have a more economical solution.

Here’s a video that introduces the concept:

The robotic kitchen is made up of seven woks, which also allow the cooking of preparations. Refrigerators are used to store the ingredients. Depending on the dish chosen by the customer, they are automatically loaded into the woks. The preparation process is therefore automated. This reduces the resources deployed.

Even if the preparations are carried out by robots, a human being is present behind them to ensure that the system is working properly and to prepare the menus. For the restaurant Spyce, it is the French chef Daniel Boulud who is in charge.

Cooking is done by induction. Concerning the maintenance of the devices, everything is done automatically. The ingredients used come from organic farming. Moreover, vegans can also find dishes that are entirely vegan. The control is carried out from a touch screen in the establishment. The cost of a dish is around 6.5 euros. The service is fast, as the preparation takes only 3 minutes.
