The more you see the wonders of mother nature, the more you want to protect it. The closer you see the damages humans are causing to wildlife, the more willing you become to do something about it.
Jason Borkland grew up in Austin, Texas. Throughout his life, he knew he had to take over his family business, Heritage Body and Frame, a multiple-location collision repair facility specializing in repairing high-end autos. Heritage has been in business since 1986 and currently holds certifications from Honda, Acura, Tesla, Kia, Nissan, Infiniti, and more.
However, his constant thirst for adventure led him to become a PADI Divemaster, and he started to help people learn to dive. The adrenaline rush, the thrill of flight, and the constant pursuit of adventure were enough to let the oceans engulf him. But all that he encountered underneath the waves made him absolutely fall in love with nature.
Pursuing his passion for diving, he gained experience in shark diving, which led to underwater video and scientific diving. That is primarily how the professional diver turned into an ocean advocate working alongside the scientific community to preserve ocean animals. The underwater world enticed him to learn more about it and research innovative ways of protecting it.
It is rightfully said to pursue your passion as it will lead you to your life’s purpose. For Jason, this belief pretty much sums up his life. He is the winner of various photography awards and a complete pro at underwater and above-water tagging of Tiger Sharks, Hammerhead sharks, Giant Mantas, and Galapagos sharks. Jason is permitted to handle sharks and Mantas in protected areas of Mexico, Costa Rica, and the World Heritage site Cocos Island.
As an advocate of the ocean, he has the privilege of assisting local governments in Mexico and Costa Rica to preserve natural areas against overfishing. He has also been on the Board of chairman of Fins Attached Marine Research And Conservation, a non-profit operating in the Eastern Tropical Pacific.
Jason feels that since he has witnessed the glorious oceanic life first-hand, a privilege not held by many, it has become his duty to preserve these wonders for future generations. Sustainability remains a personal passion and mission for Jason. He has also made sure to include it in the family-owned automotive business, Heritage Body and Frame, where he promotes and prefers new and green technology, which reduces the dependency on fossil fuels. His company further contributes to the cause by ensuring it uses environment-friendly paint systems.
Marine ecosystems urgently require a sustainable approach as the mounting pressures on them have emerged as a global issue. Today, as a professional diver, Jason undertakes some of the most challenging diving expeditions to document pelagic animals and contribute to the research and welfare of endangered marine life.
