Starting a new venture is no mean feat. It’s as hard as it can get. With new challenges lying ahead each day, it can, at times, become a juggling act. Even more so, when you have to attend to certain preoccupations that you can not let go that easily.
Things took off only gradually for Philistine Amenaki, a rising entrepreneur, a full-time nurse, and a travel content creator. She faced her set of hurdles only to take them in her stride. From thereon, she continued to supplement her creative journey with passion, consistency, and hard work. Over the past year, Philistine has achieved impressive milestones. She recently launched her beach hat brand called “Tropical Being,” Within just a month of the launch, she managed to sell out two of her hat designs. Her brand aims to instill a passion for traveling among women of color and empower them to enjoy their individuality.
Moreover, her travel blog has been picking up substantial follower strength. Philistine’s passion for producing travel content stems from wanting to express her feelings of being at a new place and its meaning in her life. Below are a few tips which Philistine believes has been the cornerstone of her success:
1- Consistency and self-assurance
Philistine is a firm believer in ensuring consistency and learning as one goes through the different stages of setting up a business. She remains mindful of clinging to habits that help her persevere. One of the key drivers of her success has been writing down her goals and manifestations to see them come to life and keep her determined to achieving her pending targets.
2- Staying true to yourself
According to Philistine, it’s essential to stay true to who you are as a person. Her own experiences are telling of that. Not only has she put in vast amounts of effort in setting up her business and starting her blog, but she has tried to set her brand apart from the rest—all that has worked in her favor. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Philistine was bred in different countries. That has allowed her to reflect on the diversity of her experiences in her creative work processes.
3- Networking
Connecting with people from your line of work is one essential tip that Philistine banks upon. Not being afraid to ask for help can change the course of your career in the same way it did for Philistine. Her journey has been nothing less of an exciting opportunity for her to learn from others, especially those she has looked up to for years now. It has allowed her to gain insights from them and build a business that she is passionate about. Philistine’s success story is one marked by challenges which she successfully overcame. Initially, when she started her travel blog, Philistine made many mistakes due to not knowing and being able to identify her target audience. Her blog didn’t set out on the trajectory she had hoped for. It wasn’t growing and didn’t get enough engagement. She then reached out to mentors Samia Jay, and Nikki, and within no time, she started getting her desired results.
As for Philistine’s future goals and aspirations, she still believes that there is more ahead in how she wants to take her business and blog to the next level. She plans to open a new venture very soon and leave the nursing field to be in business full-time.
